Triathlon fueling
Keep fueling in the training picture.
Triathlon fueling is easier to improve when you record what you ate and drank alongside the training. TriElite lets you track carbohydrate, fluid, sodium, calories, protein, and fat, then review the entries against your targets. Estimates should always be checked; the app does not replace medical or individual dietetic advice.
The on-device AI features described here apply to version 1.2.4 and later. Installed versions 1.2.3 and earlier retain their optional remote AI services; see processing and retention for older versions.
Why track fueling during triathlon training?
Fueling is part of the work around a Swim, Bike, or Run, but it is easy to remember only the workout and forget what was eaten, carried, or tolerated. A separate note can lose timing, source, and context. Keeping nutrition records beside the training week makes it easier to review what you know and what you still need to test.
TriElite Fuel can track carbohydrate, fluid, sodium, calories, protein, and fat, along with the amount, timing, notes, and where the information came from. Target and history views make it easier to spot gaps and compare days. A logged entry is still a record, not a clinical recommendation.
See the broader triathlon training app guide for planning context, or read full-distance training guidance for a longer build where fueling practice becomes part of the review.
How does the fueling workflow work?
- Set the context: provide the permitted body, preference, and training information used to establish targets. Inputs can be changed; they are not a diagnosis.
- Choose an entry route: record amounts manually, use a supported barcode lookup, or choose the optional photo-analysis route when its disclosure is shown.
- Review the result: check where the information came from. A photo estimate is not the same as a value you measured or verified yourself.
- Keep corrections visible: edit a saved entry when needed and preserve the distinction between an original estimate and your reviewed value.
- Look back with training context: review targets, timing, history, and coverage alongside the week rather than using one number as a verdict.

Fuel works best when read with the wider triathlon training app workflow, the beginner guide, or the full-distance build guide. For the product's planning model, see how TriElite works and what TriElite is.
How can fueling records support race preparation?
Use training sessions to make a record of what you tried, when you tried it, and how complete the record is. A history view can help you spot gaps in logging or compare a planned target with the entries you made. That is useful preparation evidence, but it is not a guarantee that a race-day strategy will work in heat, on a particular course, or for another athlete.
Keep the app's scope in mind: workout-fueling association is not a promise of the current product, and an entry does not become attached to a workout merely because the dates look close. If you need a race-specific nutrition plan, allergies or dietary restrictions accounted for, or help with symptoms, work with a qualified professional.
Common mistakes when using a fueling app
- Treating a photo estimate or barcode result as verified nutrition data without checking packaging or correcting the entry.
- Assuming a target is a diagnosis, a guarantee, or a replacement for professional nutrition guidance.
- Logging only calories and losing the timing or fluid context that makes an endurance record useful.
- Assuming a date-matched fuel entry is automatically associated with a workout.
- Treating an on-device photo estimate as verified nutrition data without reviewing and correcting it.

Triathlon fueling FAQs
What is a triathlon fueling app?
It is a tool for recording nutrition and hydration context around endurance training. TriElite Fuel can hold manual entries and deterministic targets for carbohydrate, fluid, sodium, calories, protein, and fat; estimates and available data should be reviewed rather than treated as medical or individualized nutrition advice.
Can I log fuel manually in TriElite?
Yes. TriElite supports manual Fuel entries with amounts, context or timing, notes, source, and evidence state. You can review or correct an entry. A logged value describes what was recorded; it does not prove that a fueling strategy is right for your body or event.
Does TriElite estimate food from a photo?
In version 1.2.4 and later, Apple Vision and Apple Intelligence analyze a selected food photo on-device when Apple Intelligence is available. The photo is not sent to a cloud AI provider. The result is an estimate that you review and can correct before saving. Barcode lookup and manual entry remain alternatives when Apple Intelligence is unavailable.
Does a fueling app replace a sports dietitian?
No. A fueling app can organize records and targets, but it cannot diagnose a nutrition problem or account for every medical, dietary, or event-specific need. Seek a qualified sports dietitian or clinician for individualized guidance, especially when symptoms, restrictions, or a health condition are involved.
